Ketogenic Diet - Results Week 3

So week 3 rolls around and it sees me breaking my diet on Sunday but jumping back on it as soon as I could on Monday. Sunday's break was due to my friend's 70's themed b'day party with themed food as well. Didn't see a salad in sight! -.- I did think ahead and got myself a subway salad bowl but unfortunately, I was there the entire day and so got hungry again pretty damn quickly.

Results were interesting but sadly, water retention is getting worse. I didn't drink enough water this week at all. Weather and stress didn't help.

Well, here's the results for week 3 into the diet:

Overall:
Weight( kg)

First started: 73.6
Week 1: 71.2
Week 2: 71.2
Week 3: 70.4
Difference from last week: 0.8 (weight loss yes!)

Measurements:

Actual cms loss from last week (week 2) to today (02/12): 5cm!

So now the breakdown of the actual weight loss from the VLA:
Fat (kg from ideal - basically what I need to lose):

First started: 15.46kg
Week 1: 14.06kg
Week 2: 13.6kg
Week 3: 12.38kg
Difference from last measurement: -1.22kg

ATM (kg from ideal - what I need to gain):

First started: -1.45kg
Week 1: -1.44kg
Week 2: -1.42kg
Week 3: -1.35
Difference from last measurement: +0.04kg (really should start thinking of going to the gym again)

ATM Quality

First started: 94
Week 1: 95
Week 2: 95
Week 3: 95
Difference from last measurement: 0

Phase Angle

First started: 6.41
Week 1: 6.71
Week 2: 6.72
Week 3: 6.72
Difference: 0 (Lindsay was slightly unimpressed with this since I did lose quite a significant amount of fat and gained a slight amount of muscle, there should have been improvement. We put it down to being dehydrated again)

CFB (cellular fluid balance)

First started: 0.05
Week 1: -5.2
Week 2: -1.96
Week 3: -0.53
Difference: +1.43 (this is getting out of hand -.-)

Biomarker Index (Age of my body as opposed to chronological age)

First started: 29
Week 1: 28
Week 2: 27
Week 3: 26
Difference: 1 year (Getting there.. three more years and i'll be the right age again.. I bet you its going to slow down soon though and crawl towards my goal)

ICW% (Intracellular water)

First started: 50.05
Week 1: 51.58
Week 2: 50.74
Week 3: 50.64
Difference: - 0.10 (again.. not good -.-)
Difference from ideal: -4.36

ECW% (Extracellular water)

First started: 49.94
Week 1: 48.42
Week 2: 49.26
Week 3: 49.36
Difference: 0.10 (water retention!! damn it!)
Difference from ideal: 4.36

ECW (Litres)

First started: 15.19
Week 1: 14.38
Week 2: 14.88
Week 3: 15.29
Difference: +0.41 ( Damn I'm back to where I started AND THEN SOME!)

So the weight loss was good, as was the fat loss. I'm a little pissed that I couldn't keep up with my fluid intake this week even though coffee drinking was down to 2 coffees a day if not one.

Goal for this week. Drink more water!

Ketogenic Diet - Week 2 results

I know it has been a while since I've posted anything up but things have been getting in the way (damn life) and I've decided its pretty damned boring to keep posting every single thing I eat so I thought it would be better to just post the results as I get them with each visit to my naturopath.. Week 2 has crawled around with my last night before the weigh-in day being an ultimate diet disaster due to a gathering me and a few good friends had at a Teppanyaki restaurant in Melbourne.

Because of the "breach" right before the weigh-in day and also a little too much coffee during the week, the results aren't as.. great as last weeks..

Well, here's the results for week 2 into the diet:

Overall:
Weight( kg)

First started: 73.6
Week 1: 71.2
Today: 71.2
Difference from last week: 0 -.-

Measurements:

Actual loss from last week (week 1) to today: 4.5cm!! 1cm off my waist, 1 cm off my butt and 1 cm off my thighs.. but... no weight loss?? this got me all confuzzled like.. until we did the VLA

So now the breakdown of the actual weight loss from the VLA:
Fat (kg from ideal - basically what I need to lose):

First started: 15.46kg
Week 1: 14.06kg
Today: 13.6kg
Difference from last measurement: -0.46kg (I LOST BODY FAT!!!!!!!!! not enough to get me too excited but I actually lost something!!)

ATM (kg from ideal - what I need to gain):

First started: -1.45kg
Week 1: -1.44kg
Today: -1.42kg
Difference from last measurement: +0.02kg (I gained more muscle!!! honestly 20g isn't much but seriously considering I'm not going to the gym...)

ATM Quality

First started: 94
Week 1: 95
Today: 95
Difference from last measurement: 0 (considering I gained a little more muscle and haven't been all that strict with my diet, I'm actually quite happy that the quality didn't decrease!)

Phase Angle

First started: 6.41
Week 1: 6.71
Today: 6.72
Difference: +0.01 (yes! health of cells is up!such a good thing!)

CFB (cellular fluid balance)

First started: 0.05
Week 1: -5.2
Today: -1.96
Difference: +3.24 (sigh.. sadly the fluid balance kinda went mad this time around.. explanation about this will be at the end of the result report)

Biomarker Index (Age of my body as opposed to chronological age)

First started: 29
Week 1: 28
Today: 27
Difference: 1 year (slowly and surely getting it down to my chronological age again.. although Lindsay mentioned that the ideal/optimal age of body should be about 10% less than chronological age.. which would mean that if I am able to achieve it - depending on lifestyle choices and situations etc - will be about 20.7 years)

ICW% (Intracellular water)

First started: 50.05
Week 1: 51.58
Today: 50.74
Difference: - 0.84 (this isn't too good.. means I lost the slight step forward that I had to get to ideal balance)
Difference from ideal: 4.26

ECW% (Extracellular water)

First started: 49.94
Week 1: 48.42
Today: 49.26
Difference: 0.84 (this has gone up.. not a good thing because this means that I am retaining water as well)
Difference from ideal: 4.26

ECW (Litres)

First started: 15.19
Week 1: 14.38
Today: 14.88
Difference: +0.5 ( this isn't good.. I'm meant to be losing the water, not retaining it all again)

So as you can see, even though I've lost fat and cms off my body, the additional 500ml of water that my body has retained kind of cancels out the actual weight loss from the loss of fat. Thus, although I didn't move in weight, I actually still did lose fat and cms off my body which is pretty good :)

An explanation about why I may have retained water is that I had a bowl of rice (carbs.. BIG no no on this diet) while out with my friends at the Teppanyaki place, and also a shot of warm sake. Apparently rice (I'm thinking it may be carbs in general) and alcohol actually contribute to absorption of water, meaning the body will retain the water until the carbs/alcohol is out of the system etc etc.

Also, I did kinda drink quite a large amount of coffee during the week (so much for keeping it down to 1-2 glasses a day!) and therefore must try to reduce the coffee intake in the upcoming weeks..

So all in all (gosh this sounds like a damn essay), although I am relatively happy with my fat and cm loss this week, I am not entirely pleased that my weight did not drop at all. I think I will have to try to work hard to keep to the diet..

Sadly, I can see myself breaking the diet on Sunday coming because it will be a birthday party at a friend's place and she cooks the BEST foods... grrrrrr....

When on a diet people, make note NOT to choose a new lifestyle change around the november and december (NYE included) mark.. there's just WAY too many parties around

Teppanyaki!!

After quite a number of weeks of talking about hanging out and going out to have Teppanyaki somewhere etc etc a group of my friends and I (inclusive of Allan) finally made plans, booked the place and went out for dinner!!

We went to a place called Tokyo Teppanyaki located on Chapel St, South Yarra which apparently was the first Teppanyaki restaurant to open in Melbourne (please don't quote me on this, I'm not too sure).

How the place looks
Having made the booking for 7pm, I (as any good Malaysian does) end up arriving at 7.15pm -.- Luckily the rest of my group were out drinking beforehand and hadn't arrived yet either. I was stressing out soooo much because I was going to be late (I'm pretty sure that would be the Swiss culture rising out of me again) but one cannot hurry traffic along unfortunately. Plus parking turned out to be somewhat of a pain for a good 10 minutes or so before I decided to park in a carepark place nearby.

We ordered the "Osaka" set menu and set about conversing and drinking wine (well the rest did, I drank a virgin daiquiri since I don't really drink wine that much) while waiting for our chef to arrive. Those of you who aren't fluent with eating at a Teppanyaki restaurant, the one's in melbourne are known to have mischievous and talented chefs who would flip eggs at you while cooking ;)

I have to say that although the waitstaff didn't actually speak very good English (from what I could gather), the service there was EXCELLENT! Each time someone would get up to go to the toilet or out for a smoke, a waitress would be there folding the napkin and placing it on the table beside the plate so it is ready for us to place on our lap again upon return. Wine glasses were also quite quickly refilled (due to a b.y.o. plan where my friends brought about 5 bottles of wine between them) as soon as they were empty.

Our chef was actually a Thai born, Australian citizen who has lived in Aus since he was 2 yrs old! OMG did he have great personality and my group and him were just bouncing off each other with jokes and laughter. He even bought us a free round of sake at the end of dinner! Egg flipping was fun. He tried to flip the eggs into our mouths one at a time and it took a few tries for some of us to get it right. A couple slices of egg (omellete style) kinda went down my top in the attempt much to the amusement of EVERYONE at the table *blush* We also had to earn our main dinner (bowl of rice) by catching the bowls that he tossed at us (usually 4 empty bowls followed by a full bowl of rice), with each person catching the bowls at different distances. Chris, Maree-Claire's partner, actually caught his bowl of rice outside the restaurant, where the chef threw it from the middle of chapel street! :D That was amazing.

I have to say kudos to the person who actually chose that particular chef for us because from what I gathered of the other chefs, they were a little placid and not as "crazy"/adventurous as our chef. It really made the dinner great.

Alistair looking EXTREMELY relieved after actually catching his bowl of rice. This photo was taken at the same distance of which the rice was thrown

Bottom's up! Alistair, being Scottish, made sure there was not a drop left in that jar :)

Watch out for cars! Our chef checking for traffic as he gets ready to throw a bowl of rice from the middle of Chapel St

Left to right: Alistair (one of the girls), Erin (Miss Perky), Karin (I'm from Sweden :P), Chris (extreme rice catcher)

Chef "firing up" our meat for dinner. Noms full of awesomeness!!

After dinner (which would have been counted supper too considering the courses we had and the time it was when we walked out of the restaurant), we all went over to Katuk, a bar on chapel street that REALLY caught my eye and heart (as much as a bar can). It is such a quaint but quirky little bar that has a bookshelf, couches, fireplace, and even has games at the bar such as connect four and jenga!!!!

I really have to say that this bar is really the kind of bar I could frequent (only if they served coffee too) quite often and make it my "local" if I had the chance.

Allan and I spent a good part of an hour there before we decided to head home. Right before this though, we found a cosy little corner where a few photos were taken and I sadly missed Erin tackling MC while MC was trying to carry 3 schooners of beer. *giggles*

I have to say that although the night was slightly draining on me (social wise), I really really enjoyed myself and have found that I'm actually more of an empath that I thought. I'll talk more about being an empath in another post. It is late and I'm really tired.

Cute! Kinda wish it were a compatible couple not? :) Besties to the max

I caught this pose! Well, I saw the potential for a photo, and Allan took the photo

Maree-Claire, Alistair, Karin, me and Erin

Candid

Random shot of me. Thought I'd try to "pose" :P

Ketogenic Diet - Week 1 results

A week has gone by with my diet.. Well its a little more than a week considering I started on Monday but lets just minus out the few days that I made a few "slips".

Had my appointment with Lindsay today (was meant to be Tuesday but stuff got in the way) and we did what would be a weekly/fortnightly measurement thingy which included the VLA as well. What a motivation boost!!!!!! Not only did I lose weight, the tests actually show that the weight loss is mainly fat with a little of water retention loss! Therefore, I didn't lose any muscle in the weight I loss and it was not all water!

Here's the results for this week compared with last week:

Overall:
Weight( kg)

First started: 73.6
Today: 71.2
Difference: -2.4 (WOOOOOOHOOOO!!)

Measurements:

Actual loss from first started to today: 5.5cm!! 2cm of which is from my belly/waist! hah! take that fat!

So now the breakdown of the actual weight loss from the VLA:
Fat (kg from ideal - basically what I need to lose):

First started: 15.46kg
Today: 14.06kg
Difference: -1.4kg

ATM (kg from ideal - what I need to gain):

First started: -1.45kg
Today: -1.44kg
Difference: +0.01kg (I gained muscle!!!)

ATM Quality

First started: 94
Today: 95
Difference: +1 (woohoo my muscle quality got better!)

Phase Angle

First started: 6.41
Today: 6.71
Difference: +0.3 (yes! again, health of cells is up!)

CFB (cellular fluid balance)

First started: 0.05
Today: -5.2 (now remember, i'm aiming to get this number down to -10 which would be optimal)

Biomarker Index (Age of my body as opposed to chronological age)

First started: 29
Today: 28 (Lindsay was really stoked about this, usually in a week it would only go down about .4 or .5)

ICW% (Intracellular water)

First started: 50.05
Today: 51.58
Difference: +1.53
Difference from ideal: 3.42 (not too far to go! apparently this takes a while to change as well)

ECW% (Extracellular water)

First started: 49.94
Today: 48.42
Difference: -1.52
Difference from ideal: 3.42 (slowly crawling downwards to the ideal ECW%)

ECW (Litres)

First started: 15.19 (now remember this amount places me about 2.72L above what I should actually have)
Today: 14.38
Difference: -0.81(must be all that toilet-ing I do cause of all the water I'm drinking hah!)

Skyline

To celebrate the end of my exam, I decided that tonight was movie night so I could spend some quality time with Allan when I had a chance. Having seen the trailer of the movie "Skyline", we thought it would be great to finally go watch it since it seemed to have massive amounts of good science fiction potential.

Poster for Skyline

After watching the movie, however, I'm not so sure what I should say....

It is a movie directed by the Strause brothers, renown for their special effects - having done effects for 300, X-Men, Terminator 3 and a few other blockbusters.

Honestly, I thought that the special effects were great! Definitely up to their standard and the aerial combat was a hell of an amazing thing to watch..

Storyline.. well, it could have been better. I get the point of seeing an alien invasion from the perspective of a civilian and not some war hero sorta thing but being stuck in a 20-storey building for most of the movie.. seriously?? i mean really.. wtf??

It almost felt like "Look guys this is sooo great! omg look at the aerial combat amazing, oh wait hang on.. now where do we go from here??"

The ending did look like there was going to be a sequel but again it was more like "so here's the show and we've made it this far... OMG! we're out of funding.. cut it NOW!" or along another line of "so here's the show, its going pretty good, finally figured out where we're going to go with this story ... oh shit 92 minutes are up.. CUT NOW!"

Disappointing to a certain point. If the sequel came out, I'm not sure it'll make it to the Box office again but just go straight to DVD. I wouldn't watch it in a cinema again but if it did come out on DVD, I'd rent it just because I've seen the first and want to see where they are going with the second.

So, from a sci-fi fan, I wouldn't really recommend going to the movies for this. Perhaps watch it on DVD or something.

Ketogenic Diet - Day ... I have no idea

So it seems that the ball really ruined my diet. I tried to get back on track on Sunday and that worked. Then exams hit me today and I barely had anytime to eat my snacks let alone a meal. Blah

Also it didn't help that while waiting for the meal to arrive, I get some news that just annoyed the absolute crap out of me. Not only did it annoy me, it pissed me off and then got me settled into a MASSIVELY bad depression. Then the food arrived. ARGH!!! talk about comfort eating. I ended up eating a few chips..

Oh dear, now I'm in a small but funny debate with Allan on what is the term for a chip.. a strand? a slice? a cut? On that line of though, what is the term for one wedge.. a wedge of wedges? hah!

Ok back on track. I have to say at least I got in my protein for the day (maybe had a little more than I should have) and also my veg for the day. I suppose I shouldn't have caved into eating a little bit of carbs but seriously I'm F**KING PISSED OFF!!

Other than that, I'll be fully back on my diet again tomorrow as I promised Allan I would. I hope a couple days of slackness won't affect me too badly. At the very least I'd have dropped out of ketosis but as long as I don't gain weight, I think that'll be ok.

Ketogenic Diet - Day 6

Day 6 and I has a whoopsie in my diet! I totally did not plan ahead and thought about the charity ball that I was going to. How horrible. Did the Ketostix test this morning and it showed that I was definitely getting rid of some ketones but now the bloody ball is here and I don't know what to do! crapness -.-

So what can I do but actually stick to my diet all the way up to the ball:

Breakfast - had a slight oops before breakfast.. accidentally ate a cookie without thinking. ack! then had 2 scrambled eggs, bacon, onion, spinach and mushroom. I think that was all I had.. heh bad memory

Lunch - this was EVIL. Allan had McDonalds cause He didn't eat breakfast and we were on our way to Ballarat. All I had was the shake and a pear. Argh.. evil I say.. the smell of chips!! *droool*
Large Big Mac Meal

Snack - 1/4 cup of almonds and nuts

Dinner - kinda failed here.. the entree platters were filled with pastries.. i tried to limit myself but still!
Entree - some form of egg(?) tartlet with basil and tomato on top (bruschetta on tartlet anyone?)
                   - asian wonton with asian sauce (I think that was what it was.. tasty as all hell)
                   - beef patee (sort of) on a tiny piece of baguette (yum)
                   - some form of slice of sausage roll with a berry sauce
Main - Eye fillet steak with a ball of spinach, three slices (yes I said THREE SLICES.. i counted) of potatoes and some salad (couldn't eat much of the salad, it had rocket in it)
Dessert - on the menu it said chocolate pudding but it tasted more like coffee pudding with chocolate ganache (sauce) with cream.. I skipped the cream..

Oh and oops I missed a snack too.. CRAP I just realized -.- f**k f**kety f**k f**k.. oh not meant to curse.. oh well.. just as well dinner ruined my diet as it is.

Oh and I'll post up about the ball soon.. Tired now.

Ketogenic Diet - Day 5

Ahh... Day 5, slowly regaining some resemblence of strength back. Also might have to do with getting over that time of month as well.. heh.. I don't do the Ketostix test very often but a test this morning showed that my body is in ketosis! Or at least there is a presence of ketones in my body :)

What I ate today (fun fun :P)

Breakfast - Shake and metaoil as usual

Lunch - Chicken salad with avocado (found a really really nice cafe near where I went to get waxed today and the chicken salad is DEVINE! must really go back there again at some point. only downside is that there is almost no parking available on the street itself. Funnily enough, the cafe is actually a florist as well)

Snack - Pear and Snack bar provided by Lindsay.. I must say I prefer to have the soy keto bar more than this version

Dinner - Thai yellow curry chicken with asian veg (no rice)

Snack - 1/4 cup of almonds and walnuts as per usual

Nothing really interesting happened today so meh.. don't think I have much to post. Till next time :)

Ketogenic Diet - Day 4

*sigh* what has my blog turned into?? Heh.. I promise in between my daily updates I'll go out in search of something interesting to talk about. Seriously I know it is boring but what better way to keep one motivated than to publicly post up exactly what is being eaten or done? It is of course slightly humiliating that I have to post up my weight etc but hey, if I don't do anything now, my bulimic tendencies will get worse and that's not good at all.

Day Four. I have to say that trying to eat every 3 hours when one has to work and study is not a very easy thing to do. Half the time during snack time I have to pretty much stuff my face full of the handful of nuts and try to swallow them as quick as possible so I can get back to what I was doing. Really unattractive. Thank goodness there is a corner I can hide in so customers don't see what I'm doing.. heh.

Food Journal:

Breakfast - 2 eggs (scrambled), half a small tomato (grilled), onions (pan - fried) with a few slices of chilli in it and a few rashers of bacon (less the gristle/fat)

Lunch - my usual change to a chicken ceasar salad with addition of asian greens and about 4 strawberries (god I hope they are enough for the day, I had to approximate half a cup.. I doubt they were half a cup)

Snack - 85g can of mango and chilli tuna.. I have a feeling this may not go down so well with Lindsay when I see her next. I'm not meant to have mango because of the high natural sugar content but it was the only thing in the pantry I could grab.

Dinner - Satay chicken with asian veg (no rice)

Snack - 1/4 cup of almonds and walnuts (you'd reckon i'd get sick of that by now.. actually not yet)

At some point during the day between breakfast and lunch I managed to swallow the two tsp. of metaoil. Surprisingly enough I actually found I preferred swallowing it by itself rather than mixing it in with the shake.. hmm..

I'm still quite irritable but then I've always been a little irritable and easily annoyed. Definitely less so than the day before.. Mentally still quite down but not in as dire straits as yesterday either. Thank God.

Ketogenic Diet - Day 3

Day 3. OMG this is probably the worst day I've had since I came out of hospital!!! I've haven't felt this bad for soooooo long. Mentally I was horrible, my irritability was so bad and I was extremely unstable mentally I was on the brink of breaking down every few minutes.  Physically I'm exhausted, no energy, no life nothing.

I have to really be grateful for my sweet Allan that even though I chucked a massive fit of a tantrum this morning, He still came to check on me after His work and was still at home when I got home. I love Him even more for that. I really do. He is the best thing that's in my life at the moment, other than Ashlyn and Felix of course. I love you Allan dearest

Breakfast - Shake + 2tsp. metaoil

Lunch - Chicken Ceasar Salad again with no parmesan, egg, bacon, croutons

Snack - small can of onion and tomato tuna

Dinner - Grilled chicken & Asian veg stirfry

Snack - 1/4 cup of almonds and walnuts and a mandarin

Drank 3.25 L of water today!! omg! I need to pee just thinking about that.

Had 2 cups of coffee

Someone was extremely rude to me when I went to get the can of tuna.

Conversation:

Person: Is that your lunch?
Me: No, it is a snack. I have to eat every 3 hours for my health under doctor's orders
Person (slight mumble): Good, then you can lose weight
Me: Excuse me?!
Person *smile*

I mean seriously? That's not very nice at all. Especially today of all days it has to happen. I was about to break down. *sigh* I hope tomorrow looks better. I don't know how much more of this emotions I can take!

Ketogenic Diet - Day 2

Day 2 and I'm slowly feeling the side effects of the damned diet (yes day 2 and I'm already cursing the diet gah). I'm just soooooooo tired!!!! It frustrates me! Also doesn't help that I have PMS. heh! too much information eh?

So what did I eat? Not that you want to know anyway.. :P but suck it up, I'm going to write it down anyway

Breakfast - Shake + 2 tsp. metaoil

Lunch - Chicken ceasar salad with asian greens on the side (of course with no egg, croutons, bacon and parmesan)

Snack - 1/4 cup mixed almonds and walnuts

Snack - Soy Keto Bar (Hazelnut crunch) and a pear (fruit for the day thing)

Dinner - Kangaroo steak, broccoli and cauliflower

2 cups of coffee

Approx. 2250 L of water (probably more I forgot to check after the minimum)

I'm so freaking tired and damned irritable today I nearly killed someone! just kidding. I didn't kill anyone, just snapped their heads off verbally. *sigh* this is annoying me to bits!

I have to LOVE my sweet Allan for cooking dinner for me. Last night's dinner was DEVINE and tonight's dinner was even better!!! I can't remember why I opted for bloody fast foods when there are such delicious food to be cooked!!

Also I have to say kangaroo steak, while also being good for health (lean meat and all) is actually one of my more favourite meats now.

Ketogenic Diet - Day 1

Since it isn't easy for me to keep being motivated, I thought that if I put myself out there and post what I eat in public, I have to answer for what I eat which would motivate me further in sticking to the diet. Also it is a good journal for myself to how I am going with the diet and to see if I have any failures etc and pin point them.

Day one of the Ketogenic Diet. It isn't a very easy diet to follow actually. I have to make sure I eat every 3 hours with an allowance of no more than 3 and a half hours. Each meal/snack has to have protein in it and there should be about 90g of protein taken throughout the day. The breakdown of the protein is usually 20g for breakfast, 10g for snack, 20g for lunch, 10 g snack and 30g dinner. Of course I'm pretty sure that can be swapped around  a little. Well I actually hope it can be swapped around, I never asked so I just did it anyway hoping that if I get at least approx. 90g of protein in my body a day it'll all be good.

Breakfast - Chocolate shake thingy I got from them, it obviously is easier to get 20g of protein in the form of a shake for breakfast than it is to cook so early in the morning especially if I'm at work.

Lunch - Chicken ceasar salad (less salad and less chicken of course) with a tiny bowl of garlic fried asian veg just to get some difference into the meal.

Snack - 1/4 cup of mixed almonds and walnuts

Snack - Soy Keto Bar (Hazelnut crunch flavour - actually damn good!)

Dinner - Half a scotch fillet steak (from Vic Markets) with some broccoli, some random form of mushroom and cauliflower. One mandarin

Oh and of course I have to have my water which I managed to drink approx. 2250 ml.

Coffee I had a mug of coffee and a few sips of espresso when I went for coffee training.

Oh and I have to have my 5 cups of veg a day (which I did) and the 2 tsp. of metaoil (something that would promote my metabolism, I'll peek at the bottle later to see what oil it actually is. I think it is some form of fish oil.)

I'm feeling alright at the moment but as with any diet there will be slight side effects in the next few days. I have to admit it is very hard trying to eat every 3 hours especially at work. It doesn't look good but since it is my health and technically I am on doctor's orders I can get away with it?? maybe??

Nothing really interesting happened today other than that. Just a regular boring day.

Body Test Results

So a week after getting the tests done at the naturopath, I get my results back. Just for curiousity purposes to my readers (if I even have any hah!) and for my own journal's sake, I'm posting them up and maybe scanning the actual data to put up in the next few days. It is rather technical, this data, so just to cut it short for those of you who don't want to read this:

I need to lose 15.46 kg of fat (fat not weight read below to see why) and gain 1.45kg of muscle and also lose about 2.72L of water that my body is retaining due to dehydration.

I will start my diet on Monday (start of the week and all that) and hopefully things will start looking up for me. The ketogenic diet will work on me keeping my body in a ketosis where basically, I am getting the body to burn fat/glycogen instead of using carbs or protein (which is gotten from muscle ack!).

So with a deep breath, and throwing myself out there for the public, here's the data (Gosh, this is going to be embarrasing *blush*):

Weight:
Weight (kg) - 73.6  (OMG!! this is the heaviest I've ever been! *sigh*)

Ideal Weight (kg) - 56.7
* The ideal weight doesn't entirely take into account any situational factors like excess water or slightly more fat or more muscle etc.. it pretty much is to the dot of a perfect amount of water, muscle and fat therefore I was told, it is achievable but hard to maintain... Depending on how my weight loss goes, I hope to be able to maintain it within a +/- 2 kg ratio

Skeletal Tissue (kg) - 6.80 (what the hell is skeletal tissue?? sounds a little disgusting.. haha)

Body Mass Index - 28.75 (now obviously BMI is too general to take in different cultures, body type and situation but according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website, a normal BMI should be between 18.5-24.9)

Fat Mass (This is one of the key points that we will be addressing not the weight, but the content)
That is 5 pounds (2.27kg) of Body Fat!!!! YUCK!
Fat (kg) - 30.77 (eww.. imagine carrying that around bleugh)

Ideal Fat Mass (kg) - 15.31

Difference from Ideal (kg) - 15.46 (this is the amount that I have to lose! dear lord! i do hope i can lose the exact amount or more if not then it'll be surgery for me.. though i hope to lose at least 10 kg)

% of Total Weight - 41.81%

% of Ideal Fat Mass - 201.00% (eww i'm carrying twice as much as I should be.. or is that 3 times? i get all confused with the percentages thingy so lets just leave it at that)

Active Tissue Mass (Muscles) - (so this would denote the mass of muscles I have in my body, I'm presuming it is lean muscle but what is non - lean muscle? *confuzzlement*.. oh and this is also another point that we are going to address along with the fat content)

ATM (kg) - 20.66 (When I first read it, I thought that ATM meant at the moment and thought, huh... scientific much? but when I typed it out, I thought OH! it means active tissue mass.. duuuuhh... brain fart moment)

Ideal ATM (kg) - 22.11

Difference from Ideal (kg) : (-1.45) (Ack! I'm actually below the ideal muscle mass, which means way more resistance training for me. According to my naturopath, the more muscle we have, the more energy we burn.. i'll have to research why this is so)

% of Total Weight - 28.07%

% of Ideal ATM - 93.44% (actually looking at this percentage makes me feel a little better.. not too far off target)

Optimal Health Indicators (These actually would need a good graph to actually show you what it means but I'll try to explain it properly. It basically shows how healthy/unhealthy my body is by breaking it down into detail)

Phase Angle - 6.41 (a phase angle basically means the health of the cells in the body, don't ask me why they call it a phase angle, i'm no biologist. I'm told by Lindsay that the an ideal number would probably be around the 7.5 mark, so hopefully with this diet, it'll bring the health of my cells back up)

% of Avg. Phase Angle - 97%

Patient Age - 23

Biomarker Index - 29 (I had to brace myself for this. The Biomarker index shows the "actual" age of the body once stress and health and all others are taken into account. This means that my body is actually 29 years old! Lindsay assured me that this would slowly decrease once I start treating my body right so hopefully at some point my body will be back to my chronological age)

Fat/Muscle Ratio - 1.49

Fat Distribution - High Risk (I wasn't explained what this was but high risk sounds pretty scary O.o)

So at this point, there is a small graph thingy of the break down of my body (ATM, Fluid and Hydration) that shows where I sit on the graph (ranging from poor to excellent)

ATM Quality Index (this states the quality of my muscles)

Actual - 94% (The graph is broken down into four sections; poor 65-75%, average 75-85%, above average 85-95% and excellent 95-105%)

According to Lindsay, even though I don't have enough muscle for my ideal body weight etc etc, the actual condition of my muscles is actually very very good considering they obviously have to work slightly harder to carry all the excess fat in addition to not actually having enough of them to spread the work around. She does of course want me to aim to increase the condition of my muscles into the excellent section - 95-105% - but that will come with time of course.

Cellular Fluid Balance (This would be the balance between the intracellular and extracellular fluids)

Actual - 0.05 (Again this is broken down into four sections; excellent (-10) - 0, good 0 - 10, average 10 - 20, poor 20 - 30)

I'm actually at the margin between good and excellent with the goal for me being -10, I think this comes with me keeping my body hydrated etc, not too sure how it works entirely.

Hydration

Actual  - 1.33 (Four sections again; Dehydrated 0-1, Marginal 1-2, Hydrated 2-3, Hydrated 3-4)

Sadly this shows that I'm only marginally hydrated. I'm meant to be aiming at the 3-4 section to ensure that my body receives the optimal hydration it needs. I wonder if there's such a thing as over hydration? I'm pretty sure that could be the case)

Fluid Balance (This would be the break down of the cellular fluid balance, I'm presuming :P)

Total Body Water (litres) - 30.41

Total Body Water % - 41.32

Intracellular Water (litres) - 15.22

Intracellular Water % -  50.05 (so this would be the water in my cells opposed to the water on the outside of my cells. My aim is to get this water up to 55%. This would be the water that is full of nutrients for the cells etc etc)

Extracellular Water (litres) - 15.19

Ideal ECW (litres) - 12.47 (viewing this, I actually have about 2.72 litres of fluid retention, meaning because I'm rather dehydrated, my body has retained 2.72L of otherwise not needed water which would mean more weight to carry damn it.)

Extracellular Water % - 49.95 (so although this is good - that is the extracellular water is less than that in the cells,  so the nutrients don't seep out of the cells but actually seep into them, using the thought of osmosis where more water = diluted, less water = more nutrients and therefore to balance them up, the nutrients would move from less water to more water bit.. gosh this is such a bad explanation - i apparently have to aim to getting that down to 45%)

Nutritional Requirements (this is a personalized requirement for my own body ONLY)

Energy (calories) - 1695

Energy (kilojoules) - 7099

Water (litres) (minimum) - 1.53

** Add 1 litre per hour of exercise
*** Add 250ml per cup of coffee/caffeinated tea

According to this, I have to drink AT LEAST 1.53L of water just for hydration of the body. Of course if the situation changes and I get some exercise in or drink coffee, which I do every day (coffee that is), I have to add 250 ml to what I HAVE to drink per cup! I see myself going to the toilet every half hour if that's the case.

Phew that was a very very long post of my results BUT that is only for the Bioimpedence Analysis! I have yet to post up the Hemaview report but for the full effects of that, I'd probably have to scan the photos into the computer. It is very interesting.
